Mastriano Lauds Economic Development in Penn Township

YORK COUNTY – PA Senator Doug Mastriano commended Carter Lumber today for its commitment to economic development and job creation in the 33rd Senate District.

The building materials retailer is establishing its first manufacturing operation in Penn Township, York County. The project is expected to support the combined creation and retention of over 200 jobs.

“Carter Lumber has shown forward-thinking and innovation by choosing Penn Township as the site of its manufacturing operation,” said Mastriano. “The community is excited about this endeavor that will boost our local economy and provide our families with further opportunities to achieve the American dream.  Carter Lumber has selected an excellent location to invest in.”

The state’s Department of Community and Economic Development is funding a portion of the project. This includes a $70,000 Pennsylvania First grant, a $15,750 workforce development grant to help the company train employees, and $70,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits.

The project includes the purchase of a 64,300-square foot warehouse in the Penn Township Industrial Park. Also, the company will renovate its existing facility to accommodate manufacturing and storage.

Carter Lumber is investing $6 million in the initiative.

Founded in 1932, Carter Lumber operates 14 retail and showroom locations across the state.
