From Pennsylvania to the Netherlands, the legacy of Major Richard “Dick” Winters continues to inspire.
I was honored to learn that my legislation urging Congress to award the Medal of Honor to Major Dick Winters has been featured in Dutch newspapers.
More than eighty years ago, the people of the Netherlands witnessed firsthand the courage, sacrifice, and leadership of the men of Easy Company as they fought to liberate their nation from tyranny. They have never forgotten.
Major Winters exemplified the very best of America—humility, courage, faith, selfless service, and extraordinary leadership under fire. His actions saved countless lives, inspired generations, and helped secure the freedom of a grateful people.
It is fitting that this effort has drawn attention overseas, where his legacy is still cherished. Freedom forged on the battlefields of Europe created a bond between our nations that endures to this day.
I remain committed to seeing Major Dick Winters receive our nation’s highest military decoration. Heroes of his character and sacrifice deserve to be remembered—not only in history books, but with the full measure of our nation’s gratitude.
“A nation that remembers its heroes remembers who it is.”

Happy Anniversary to my parents.
Choosing Independence Day as your wedding day spoke volumes about the values you shared. Your love for each other was matched only by your love for America. Dad always stood proudly to salute the flag and show it the respect it deserved, regardless of the changing times or popular opinion. The lessons you both passed on—faith, sacrifice, integrity, and patriotism—remain among your greatest gifts to our family. We miss you both, but your legacy lives on.
