On April 15, 1912, the RMS Titanic sank in the icy waters of the North Atlantic Ocean after striking an iceberg during her maiden voyage.

More than 1,500 passengers and crew lost their lives in one of the deadliest maritime disasters in history. The tragedy led to major changes in maritime safety laws, including improved lifeboat requirements and the establishment of continuous radio monitoring at sea.

Today, we remember those who lost their lives and reflect on the lessons learned from this historic tragedy.

On April 14, 1865, President Abraham Lincoln was tragically assassinated at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C., just days after the end of the Civil War.

Lincoln led the nation through its greatest trial, preserved the Union, and issued the Emancipation Proclamation, helping to end slavery in the United States. His leadership, courage, and commitment to unity left a lasting mark on our nation’s history.

Today, we remember President Lincoln’s life, his service to our country, and the legacy of freedom and unity he fought to preserve.

Look how far we have come as a nation.

For 250 years, Americans have fought very hard to secure our freedoms—and history reminds us that those freedoms must always be protected.

Let us remain committed to protecting liberty for the generations that follow.
