Today, we extend our warmest wishes to the people of Sweden as they celebrate their National Day.
June 6 marks the election of King Gustav Vasa in 1523, a pivotal moment in Sweden`s history that laid the foundation for the modern Swedish state. It is also a day to celebrate Sweden`s rich heritage, innovation, and contributions to the world.
As we honor Sweden`s National Day, we recognize the enduring friendship between the United States and Sweden and the strong bonds that unite our nations.
Happy National Day, Sweden!
D-Day Remembrance | Then and "Now"
These photos are from the 60th Anniversary of D-Day in 2004, a journey our family will never forget.
Rebbie, our young son Josiah, and I traveled across Normandy to walk the ground where history was made, and freedom was won. In the first photo, Rebbie and Josiah stand at Kilometer Zero in Sainte-Mère-Église, the starting point of the "Voie de la Liberté" (Liberty Road), which traces the route of liberation from Normandy to Bastogne. It was here, in the early hours of June 6, 1944, that American paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division fought to secure the first town liberated in France.
Along the way, Josiah had the privilege of meeting members of the Greatest Generation, including a veteran of the 101st Airborne Division and Medal of Honor recipient Lieutenant Colonel Walter D. Ehlers, one of the heroes of Omaha Beach. Their courage, humility, and sacrifice left a lasting impression on our family.
We also stood atop Pointe du Hoc, where U.S. Army Rangers scaled towering cliffs under enemy fire to destroy German positions overlooking the invasion beaches. Everywhere we went, the cost of freedom was impossible to ignore.
As we mark another anniversary of D-Day, we remember the thousands of Americans and Allied troops who stormed the beaches, dropped behind enemy lines, and fought their way across Europe to defeat tyranny. Their sacrifice changed the course of history and secured liberty for millions.
May we never forget their courage. May we remain worthy of their sacrifice.

On June 6, 1939, history was made in Williamsport when the very first Little League Baseball game was played.
What began on a small neighborhood field in Pennsylvania grew into a worldwide tradition that has shaped generations of young athletes through teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and community.
From its humble beginnings in the Commonwealth to fields across the globe, Little League remains one of America’s great traditions and it all started right here in Pennsylvania.
As we approach America’s 250th anniversary, we celebrate the people and moments that helped shape our nation’s culture, communities, and character.
Mastriano, Mehaffie Call for Congressional Medal of Honor for Maj. Richard D. Winters
HARRISBURG — Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-33) and Rep. Tom Mehaffie (R-106) today announced the introduction of resolutions in support of posthumously awarding Maj. Richard D. Winters the Congressional Medal of Honor. Winters was a lifelong resident of Pennsylvania who served as the commanding officer of the 101st Airborne Division’s Easy Company during World War II. His heroic deeds were depicted in HBO’s acclaimed miniseries “Band of Brothers.” He passed away Jan. 2, 2011.
“Time and time again, Maj. Winters and Easy Company were put in perilous situations — from D-Day to the Battle of Carentan to Hitler’s ‘Eagles Nest’ — but each time found the resolve to persevere and move forward,” said Mastriano, who chairs the Senate Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee. “Winters’ story continues to inspire us all, and it’s well past time he received our nation’s highest military honor.”
“Maj. Dick Winters’ heroism and bravery are legendary and aspirational. It is disappointing that he did not receive the Congressional Medal of Honor in his lifetime, so I’m hopeful this oversight can be righted in an expedient manner,” Mehaffie said.
Senate Resolution 326 and House Resolution 515 urge Congress to award the Congressional Medal of Honor to Winters specifically in recognition of his actions at Heteren Crossroads in Holland in 1944. Winters avoided an ambush and led a bayonet assault with 35 men against a company of more than 250 German SS troops. His actions led to the German company sustaining more than 160 casualties, while only one American soldier lost their life.
Senate Resolution 326 — which was introduced along with fellow veterans, Sens. Tracy Pennycuick (R-24), Devlin Robinson (R-37), Greg Rothman (R-34) and Gene Yaw (R-23) — is now under consideration by the Senate Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee. House Resolution 515 is now under consideration by the House Intergovernmental Affairs and Operations Committee.

Standing Up for Our Children
It was a privilege to speak at the Jonny`s Law Rally on the steps of the Pennsylvania Capitol alongside my Chief of Staff, Melissa Cruys. I am especially grateful to Nick and Natalie Tomasello, whose courage, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to honoring Jonny`s memory have transformed personal tragedy into a mission to protect children across Pennsylvania.
Senate Bill 982, Jonny`s Law, is critically important and deserves immediate action. No child should have to endure relentless bullying, and no family should have to experience the heartbreak that inspired this legislation.
Jonny`s Law will strengthen accountability, improve reporting, and help ensure that schools have the tools needed to identify, address, and prevent bullying before tragedy strikes.
We owe it to Jonny, his family, and every student across Pennsylvania to get this bill across the finish line.
The time to act is now. Pass SB 982.
Today, on the Feast of Corpus Christi, we celebrate the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist, the source and summit of the Christian life.
Corpus Christi is a reminder of Christ’s enduring promise: “I am with you always.” Through the Eucharist, believers around the world encounter God`s grace, mercy, and love in a profound and personal way.
May this holy day renew our faith, strengthen our communities, and draw us closer to Christ.
"I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever." - John 6:51
