Sen. Doug Mastriano Announces 10-Year Lease Renewal for South Mountain Golf Course

Thanks DCNR Sec. Cindy Dunn, Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman, Local House Members, Community Families and State & Local Partners

SOUTH MOUNTAIN — Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-33) today announced the South Mountain Golf Course will continue operations for another decade following the approval of a 10-year lease renewal by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR).

Mastriano expressed his appreciation to DCNR Sec. Cindy Dunn for signing the renewed lease and ensuring this important recreational asset remains available to residents of Franklin and Adams counties.

“I want to thank Sec. Dunn for recognizing the value South Mountain Golf Course brings to our region,” Mastriano said. “This course has served generations of families, seniors and young golfers, and it remains an important contributor to our local economy and quality of life.”

Mastriano also emphasized the renewal would not have been possible without the direct involvement of legislative leadership.

“I am especially grateful to Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman,” Mastriano continued. “His intervention and leadership were absolutely critical in moving this lease renewal forward. Without Sen. Pittman stepping in, this agreement might not have happened. His commitment to supporting recreation, local communities and state partnerships made a real difference.”

Mastriano further acknowledged the strong support from the local House delegation.

“I also want to recognize Rep. Chad Reichard (R-90) and Rep. Rob Kauffman (R-89) for standing with us throughout this process,” Mastriano added. “Their engagement, along with support from numerous state and local officials, ensured this popular community resource remains available for years to come.”

Reichard praised the renewal as a victory for local recreation and the region’s outdoor heritage.

“South Mountain Golf Course has been a fixture in our community for as long as many of us can remember,” Reichard said. “Its renewal ensures continued access to recreation, open space and community events. I’m grateful to DCNR and all partners involved for recognizing the significance of keeping this local asset available to our residents.”

Kauffman highlighted the course’s importance to families and the local economy.

“This lease renewal is great news for Franklin County,” Kauffman said. “South Mountain Golf Course is more than just a place to play golf — it supports small businesses, local tourism and provides a gathering place for people of all ages. I appreciate the collaboration that made this renewal possible.”

Mastriano also extended a heartfelt thank you to the local families who never wavered in their support for the course.

“A special thank you goes to Stacie and Don Montgomery and the entire George Family,” Mastriano said. “Their unwavering dedication, persistence and refusal to give up the fight to save South Mountain Golf Course played a vital role in keeping this treasured community asset open. Their commitment embodies the very best of our local spirit.”

South Mountain Golf Course has long served as a hub for public recreation, youth programs, senior activities, community events and league play across south central Pennsylvania. The renewed lease provides operational stability and allows planning for future improvements.

“This lease renewal protects a treasured community institution,” Mastriano said. “It keeps open space accessible, supports local jobs and maintains a place where people can gather, compete, learn and enjoy the outdoors.”
