Mastriano to Celebrate U.S. Army’s 250th Birthday on June 9

HARRISBURG – Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-33), chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, will recognize the 250th birthday of the United States Army on Monday, June 9, at noon in the Main Rotunda of the Pennsylvania Capitol Building in Harrisburg.

Army Col. Gerard York, grandson of World War I Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Alvin C. York, will be the keynote speaker. Sgt. York was a 29-year-old corporal in the biggest series of battles fought by Americans. He was credited with killing as many as 25 Germans with a rifle and a handgun and capturing at least 132 others. The 1941 film “Sergeant York” shared his story and won multiple Academy Awards.
