Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-33)
This year marks 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War – a conflict that profoundly shaped a generation, challenged our nation and tested the resolve of every American who wore the uniform. As we remember this solemn anniversary, we also take a moment to honor the incredible men and women who served with distinction in Vietnam.
For too long, many of our Vietnam veterans returned home not to parades and appreciation, but to silence – or worse: rejection. Yet they stood tall. They raised families, built communities and lived out their lives with the same sense of duty and purpose they showed on the battlefield.
That is why I sponsored Senate Bill 1160, now known as Act 124 of 2024. This law ensures that our state does more than remember – it acts. It honors the bravery, sacrifice and service of Vietnam veterans with the recognition they so rightly deserve.
Through this legislation, we reaffirm a fundamental truth: that freedom is never free, and those who defend it must never be forgotten.
To every Vietnam veteran: thank you. Thank you for your courage, your sacrifice and your love of country. Fifty years later, we still remember. And we always will.
